Home of Champion Boer Goats

The Fair Season has begun

Last Evening we visited the Bedford Fair in Bedford county Pennsylvania. We attended the meat goat show and there were more than 140 Boer goats in the class. Witnessing another show and just taking everything in is a great way to learn. By observation one can get the idea of both how to show your goat and how not to show your goat. Listening to the judges remarks can teach you volumes and watching how he handles the animals. The judge is evaluating the muscle content of the animal and the firmness as well. The judge is also checking how much fat is on the goat. As one watches a show such as this it becomes quite evident who is a good showman and who just grabbed the animal five minutes before the show. There are times when a good showman can take a particular goat into the ring and make a champion of him because of the way the Boer goat is shown. If the judge cannot get their hands on an animal they are not able to evaluate that.

This was a good show last night and congratulations to all of the young people who spent their time creating a great product. They can all be proud.
