This morning I had 2 of the Boer Goats I am entering in the open class at the Cambria County Fair in Ebensburg Pennsylvania. They both did a great job considering it has been awhile since they had any work at the halter. One of the starting places for show goats is to just relax and let the goat take lead and get comfortable. Expecting them to come out of the stall or pasture showing like a pro can be disastrous. That is why we are starting well before fair time.
Both goats are halter educated and have been worked with many times before this. What needs to be reinforced at this point is touching their legs to be able to set them up for the judge, and getting them used to leading me instead of the opposite. Both of these exercises take patience and repetition.
More to come as we get more involved …..
